Description: This course covers the basic knowledge that one needs to know to work in the PV industry, as an installer, a designer, a salesperson, etc. If you do not fully understand the following terms and want to work in the PV industry, this class is definitely for you. Terms: String Sizing, MPPT, IV Curves, Insolation, Ohms law, Derating, Temperature, Correction Factor, Ampacity, 120% rule, Voltage Drop, NABCEP, NREL, STC, Imp, Vmp, Voc, Isc, PTC, CEC, UL 1741 & 1703, Kyoto protocol, Copenhagen, flashing, grounding, etc.
Some of the material will be practical, some will be theoretical, some will be political and most of it will be very interesting.
Who should attend? Students interested in material required to pass the NABCEP Entry Level Certificate of Knowledge & students who are new or in their first year of studying PV. These students do not necessarily have to take the NABCEP Entry Level Exam or may have already passed it.

Additional Workshop Details:

PURPOSE OF THE WORKSHOP

To give attendees a general knowledge of PV design & installation. Also, we will show how to install PV and talk about the different practices for generating energy from the sun around the world.
(Please note: The NABCEP Entry Level exam will not be administered following the workshop and completing this workshop will not make a student eligible to sit for the NABCEP Entry Level exam).

CONTENT OF THE WORKSHOP

This workshop will go through the 10 NABCEP Entry Level learning objectives in detail and in order.

Johan Alfsen will spend 1-2 hours covering code compliant integration for the residential roof.

Giulia Suriano will spend 1 hour covering the interesting technologies used and planned in other parts of the world with emphasis on solar power from North Africa and the transmission to Europe. She will also explain the Kyoto Treaty.

PRESENTERS’ CURRENT POSITIONS AND EXPERTISE
Sean White is a solar instructor and teaches 40 hour classes in Philadelphia, Livermore and Los Angeles and prepares students for the NABCEP Entry Level Certificate of Knowledge Exam. He has also teaches an Advanced PV course and a California Solar Contractors License exam preparation course at Diablo Valley College.
Giulia Suriano is an Engineer from Europe who has worked in the PV industry for 5 years.
Johan Alfsen is an experienced trainer from QuickMountPV and has been in the PV business for 8 years.
